This rug is handwoven by Indian artisans using traditional weaving techniques. The yarn is dyed before weaving, resulting in a deeper color that lasts longer than surface-dyed wool. Each rug takes several days to make, and because it is handmade, there will be slight variations in pattern and shade – no two rugs are exactly alike. Doing Goods works directly with weaving workshops in India to ensure fair wages for the artisans.

The rug can be placed on the floor in the hallway, child's room, or in front of the bed, where the wool provides a soft surface. Many also hang it as a wall hanging, where the tiger's face becomes a graphic element. The wool is naturally dirt- and water-repellent on the surface, so minor stains can often be dabbed away with a damp cloth.

Care and maintenance

Vacuum regularly using low suction or brush setting. For stains: dab with a damp cloth – do not rub, as this can felt the wool. Air the rug outdoors a few times a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between handwoven and machine-woven wool rugs?

Handwoven rugs have small irregularities in pattern and thickness because a person controls the loom. Machine-woven rugs are completely uniform. Handwoven rugs are more densely knotted and often last longer but are also more expensive due to the labor involved.

Can a Doing Goods wool rug be washed in a washing machine?

No, handwoven wool should not be machine washed – it will shrink and felt. Vacuum regularly and treat stains locally with a damp cloth. For thorough cleaning, take the rug to a professional cleaner.

Can the tiger rug be used in the bathroom?

It is not recommended. Wool absorbs moisture, and in a bathroom the rug will get wet and may develop odors or mold. Use it in dry rooms like the living room, bedroom, or child's room.

Is the Mahee tiger rug a good gift for a nursery?

Yes, it is a durable and personal gift for a child’s first room. The rug can accompany the child for many years – first as a floor rug for play, later as a wall hanging. Wool is a natural material without plastic, and the handmade character makes it more special than a mass-produced rug.

Do Doing Goods wool rugs smell of wool when new?

Yes, new wool rugs can have a natural wool scent for the first few weeks. Air the rug outdoors for a few hours and the smell will disappear. This is not a sign of poor quality – on the contrary, it shows the wool has not been chemically treated.
