Description
The pitcher is thrown and fired in Sicily by ceramicists from Ceramiche F.L. Orgia, working in the second and third generation. The fish shape is hand-painted in deep reds and greens, where small variations in colour and brushstroke reveal that each piece is unique. A piece of Mediterranean tradition where decorative ceramics and the dining table merge in Sicilian domestic culture.

Care and maintenance
Hand washing with mild soap is recommended. Avoid the dishwasher and harsh cleaning agents to preserve the depth of the hand-painted colours.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Sicilian ceramics and ordinary Italian ceramics?
Sicilian ceramics are characterised by bold colours, figurative shapes and baroque expression — often inspired by the sea, citrus fruits and Moorish pattern traditions. Ordinary Italian ceramics from, say, Tuscany or Umbria typically feature more muted earth tones and geometric patterns.
Can you pour wine and water into a hand-painted ceramic pitcher?
Yes, the pitcher is intended for serving cold beverages such as water, juice and wine. It is glazed on the inside and food-safe, but should be hand washed to protect the exterior paintwork.
How do you care for hand-painted Italian ceramics?
Hand wash in lukewarm water with mild soap. Avoid the dishwasher, citrus-based soap and abrasive sponges. Dry gently with a soft tea towel to keep the glaze and colour layers intact for many years.
Is an Italian fish pitcher a good host gift?
Yes, a Sicilian fish pitcher is an ideal host gift for dinner parties, housewarming celebrations or summer lunches. It is both functional and decorative, and the hand-painted finish makes it a personal gift that is hard to get wrong.
Why do the colours vary from pitcher to pitcher?
Each pitcher is painted by hand by the ceramicists at the workshop in Sicily, and the glaze reacts differently during firing. Variations in red and green are not flaws — they are proof that the pitcher is an original piece of craftsmanship and not machine-produced.
