The pitcher is shaped and painted by hand by experienced ceramicists in southern Sicily. Each fish receives its rainbow-colored finish using traditional techniques — so no two pitchers are identical. The glaze is fired at a high temperature to ensure the colors last for many years. The workshop uses Italian clay and food-safe glazes.

The fish shape holds 0.8 liters of liquid. The spout is formed like the fish’s mouth, and the handle is positioned where the tail begins. The pitcher weighs about 600 grams empty and stands steadily on the table. It is food safe for water, juice, wine, and other beverages.

Care and maintenance

Wash by hand with mild dish soap and a soft sponge. Dishwashers wear down the glaze over time. Dry immediately to avoid water spots.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between hand-painted and industrial ceramics?

Hand-painted pitchers show small variations in color tone and brush strokes — no two are alike. Industrial ceramics are machine-stamped and identical from piece to piece. Hand-painted ceramics take longer to produce and require skilled artisans.

Can the fish pitcher handle hot liquids like tea or coffee?

Yes, the ceramic is fired at a high temperature and can withstand hot drinks. However, we recommend pouring slowly the first time so the pitcher adjusts to the temperature. Avoid sudden temperature changes (e.g., directly from fridge to boiling water).

Why do the colors vary from pitcher to pitcher?

Each pitcher is hand-painted by a ceramic artist in Sicily. The brush applies colors slightly differently each time, and the glaze reacts individually during firing. Therefore, the shades are never 100% identical — proof of genuine craftsmanship.

Is an Italian fish pitcher a good hostess gift?

Yes, especially for hosts who love the Mediterranean, Italian cuisine, or colorful table settings. The pitcher is practical for serving but also looks beautiful as decoration. It stands out from standard gifts like wine or chocolate.

How old is the Ceramiche F.L. Orgia tradition?

The workshop was founded in the 1920s in Sicily and is still run by the same family. They use traditional Sicilian motifs — including fish, lemons, and geometric patterns — that have been part of the island’s ceramic culture for centuries.

Handmade & unique product

Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
