Description

Since the 1980s, Quail Ceramics has hand-painted animal figures in stoneware in England, where each figure is painted individually. The orange beak and the striking eyes stand out sharply against the white body, and because the painting is done by hand, no two puffins are exactly alike. A colourful British classic with room for both a sprig of mimosa and a well-sharpened pencil.

Care and maintenance

Dishwasher safe, but can also be cleaned by hand with lukewarm water and mild washing-up liquid.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Quail puffin be used as a vase with water?

Yes. The stoneware is glazed and dense, so the figure works as a vase for a single flower or a small bouquet. The opening at the top also holds a pencil or pen if you prefer it on the desk.

What is the difference between Quail's puffin and their other bird figures?

The puffin is recognised by its strong orange beak and black-and-white body. Unlike many of Quail's smaller birds, the puffin has an opening at the top, so it works as a vase and pencil holder – not just as a figure.

How do you clean a hand-painted stoneware figure from Quail?

Quail's stoneware is dishwasher safe, but hand-washing with lukewarm water and mild washing-up liquid protects the paintwork best over time. Avoid scouring pads on the painted areas.

Is the Quail puffin a good hostess gift or birthday gift?

Yes, it's a sure winner as a hostess gift, birthday gift or small token for a bird fan. Its dual function as vase and pencil holder means the recipient always finds a place for it.

Is each Quail puffin really unique?

Yes. Each figure is hand-painted individually by Quail's painters, so small variations in brushstroke, colour tone and expression are part of it. That is part of the charm of handmade ceramics.

Handmade & unique product

Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
