Description
Harvey is shaped as a stylised fish and fired in stoneware at Bloomingville. The reactive glaze responds differently to the heat in the kiln, causing the warm brownish tones to blend into organic patterns — each piece carries its own unique imprint from the firing. A playful ceramic object that holds its own among graphic forms and minimalist stoneware.
Care & FAQShow less
Care and maintenance
Wipe with a damp cloth. The vase is watertight and can hold fresh flowers. Avoid the dishwasher to preserve the glaze finish.
Frequently asked questions
What is reactive glaze?
Reactive glaze is a ceramic technique where the glaze contains minerals that react differently to heat during firing. This creates natural colour variations and patterns, so each vase has its own unique expression in colour and texture.
What is the difference between stoneware and ceramics?
Stoneware is a type of ceramic fired at very high temperatures (around 1200°C). This makes the material dense, hard and watertight — unlike earthenware, which is more porous. The Harvey vase is stoneware and can therefore hold water for fresh flowers.
How do I clean a vase with reactive glaze?
Wipe the outside of the vase with a damp cloth. The inside can be rinsed with lukewarm water. Avoid the dishwasher and harsh cleaning agents, as these can wear on the glaze surface over time.
Is the Harvey fish vase a good housewarming gift?
Yes, Harvey makes a lovely host gift or housewarming present. The sculptural fish form makes it a personal gift, and because each vase is unique thanks to the reactive glaze, the recipient gets a piece no one else has.
Which flowers suit a narrow fish vase?
The narrow opening works best with single stems or small bouquets — e.g. tulips, anemones, ranunculus or a single eucalyptus branch. Harvey also looks great without flowers as a purely sculptural object.
