This 45 cm tall vase depicts a male head decorated with hand-painted lemons and leaves. Produced by a third-generation Italian family business specializing in traditional Sicilian ceramics since 1965. Each vase is hand-painted, resulting in slight variations in colors and details—no two are alike.

Testa Di Moro means 'Moor’s head' and is rooted in a 12th-century Palermo legend about love and betrayal. Traditionally, the vases are sold in pairs—a mature man and a young woman—but at Dims Studio, you can purchase them separately. The lemon motif is typical of Sicilian ceramics, symbolizing fertility and prosperity.

The vase works both as a waterproof flower vase and as a standalone sculpture. The hand-painted surface is suitable for indoor use but should not be exposed to frost or direct sunlight for extended periods, as this may fade the colors.

Care and Maintenance

Clean with a damp cloth. Avoid dishwashers and abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the hand-painted surface. Do not use outdoors in freezing conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Testa Di Moro man and woman vases?

The male version typically features darker skin tones and stronger facial features, while the female version is crafted with finer features and lighter colors. Traditionally sold as pairs telling the story of a 12th-century Sicilian legend. At Dims Studio, they are available separately.

Is the Testa Di Moro vase waterproof and suitable for fresh flowers?

Yes, the vase is waterproof and can be used for fresh flowers. Change the water regularly and wipe the vase’s base if condensation occurs. Avoid scrubbing the inside with hard brushes, as the ceramic can scratch.

Is the 45 cm Testa Di Moro vase too large for a dining table?

At 45 cm tall, this vase is best suited for floors, side tables, or tall consoles—not dining tables, where it would block sightlines. For tables, smaller Testa Di Moro vases of 20-30 cm are recommended if available.

Is the Testa Di Moro vase a good housewarming gift for Italy lovers?

Yes, it’s a thoughtful gift for those who have traveled to Sicily or collect authentic Italian craftsmanship. The vase holds cultural value and sparks conversation. Consider including a card with the story behind the Testa Di Moro legend.

Why do the colors vary on hand-painted Testa Di Moro vases?

Each vase is hand-painted by Italian artisans, resulting in natural variations in brush strokes, color intensity, and details. This is a mark of authentic craftsmanship—not a flaw. No two vases are identical, making your piece unique.
