Description
The dish is made in Italy by Caja Company in genuine faience and hand-painted in an Italian ceramic tradition. The jellyfish's tentacles trace the relief in the base of the dish, and the brushstrokes give small colour variations from piece to piece. A playful reference to the Mediterranean — somewhere between servingware and table decoration.
Care and FAQShow less
Care and maintenance
Hand-washing is recommended to preserve the hand-painted surface. Avoid prolonged soaking in water.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between faience and stoneware?
Faience is fired at a lower temperature than stoneware and has a softer, more porous clay core covered with a tin or lead glaze. This gives the characteristic, slightly matte surface that is ideal for hand-painting — but also makes faience more fragile, so hand-washing is recommended.
How do you care for hand-painted Italian ceramics?
Wash by hand with a mild washing-up liquid and lukewarm water. Avoid scouring sponges and the dishwasher, as heat and chemicals can wear down the hand-painted decoration over time.
Can the jellyfish dish be used for serving food?
Yes, the dish is well suited to tapas, antipasti, cheese, fruit or olives. However, avoid very acidic or greasy dishes for extended periods, as faience can absorb colour and odour.
Is a hand-painted dish from Caja Company a good hostess gift?
Yes, an Italian faience dish is an obvious hostess gift — especially for friends who love to host dinners. Each dish is unique because of the hand-painting, which gives the gift a personal dimension.
Why are there small colour differences between the dishes?
Each jellyfish dish is painted by hand by Italian ceramicists, and brushstrokes, colour layers and firing temperature vary slightly from dish to dish. The variations are not flaws, but evidence of the craftsmanship.

Handmade & unique product
Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
