Description
The bowl is thrown and fired in Italian faience and decorated by hand with a crab motif in reddish tones. The brushstrokes vary from bowl to bowl, so no crab is exactly alike — some have a bolder outline, others a more washed-out hue. A maritime element in an Italian table tradition where hand-painted ceramics and small bowls are part of the meal.
Care and FAQShow less
Care and maintenance
Hand washing is recommended to preserve the hand-painted surface. Avoid the dishwasher, as it can wear down the decoration over time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between faience and stoneware?
Faience is fired at a lower temperature than stoneware and has a softer, more porous core covered with glaze. This gives a lighter bowl with a characteristic hand-painted surface, while stoneware is harder and more resistant to knocks.
Is hand-painted faience dishwasher safe?
It is not recommended. The high temperature and harsh detergent of the dishwasher wear down the hand-painted decoration. Hand washing with mild soap preserves the colours and motif best.
What can you serve in a small 11 cm bowl?
The size suits dips such as aioli, tapenade or hummus, as well as olives, capers, nuts or sauces. It also works as a spice bowl by the stove or for salt and lemon zest on the dining table.
Is a crab bowl a good hostess gift?
Yes, a hand-painted bowl is a thoughtful hostess gift — especially for fish and seafood dinners, summer lunches or for someone who loves Italian table culture. Its small size makes it easy to give as a single gift or in a set.
Why does each hand-painted bowl look different?
Because the motif is painted with a brush one bowl at a time, the line, colour intensity and placement vary slightly. This is not a flaw but a hallmark of hand-painted ceramics — each bowl is its own piece.

Handmade & unique product
Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
