Description

Thrown and painted in a family workshop in Sicily, where second- and third-generation ceramicists work side by side. The sun face is hand-painted in warm, light shades, so every pitcher takes on its own expression and small variations in the strokes. The motif traces back to classic Sicilian ceramics, where female facial features stand for fertility and the warmth of the sun.

Care and FAQShow less

Care and maintenance

Wash by hand with a mild washing-up liquid. Avoid the dishwasher, as high temperatures and harsh chemicals wear down the hand-painted surface over time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between hand-painted and printed ceramics?

Hand-painted ceramics are painted with a brush, so each piece gains small variations in stroke, colour intensity and motif. Printed ceramics have a uniform pattern applied by machine and look identical from piece to piece. The sun pitcher here is hand-painted, so no two pitchers are exactly alike.

Can I use the pitcher to serve water and juice?

Yes. The ceramic is fired at high temperature and withstands daily use with water, juice, iced tea and other cold drinks. It also works as a vase for fresh flowers.

How do you care for hand-painted Sicilian ceramics?

Always wash by hand with a mild washing-up liquid and a soft sponge. The dishwasher, scouring pads and strong cleaning agents can wear down the glaze and the hand-painted colours over time.

Is an Italian sun pitcher a good hostess gift?

Yes, it is an obvious hostess or housewarming gift, especially for someone who loves Mediterranean style, Italian food culture or colourful ceramics. The sun motif symbolises warmth and fertility in Sicilian tradition, which gives the gift extra meaning.

What does the sun face symbolise in Sicilian ceramics?

The sun face with female features is a classic motif in Sicilian ceramics and is associated with fertility, the warmth of the sun and protection of the home. The motif is often seen on pots, pitchers and wall plaques from the island.

Handmade & unique product

Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
