Since 1987, Quail Ceramics has specialized in hand-painted animal-shaped egg cups from their workshop in England. This fox design is crafted from fired stoneware with a stable base that keeps the egg securely in place. The 9 cm height fits standard soft-boiled eggs. Because each egg cup is hand-painted, the shades in the fox’s fur will vary slightly from piece to piece — a signature of craftsmanship, not a flaw.

Care and maintenance

Dishwasher safe, but hand washing will extend the life of the hand-painted finish. Avoid sudden temperature changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Quail egg cups and regular ceramic egg cups?

Quail hand-paints each egg cup individually in their English workshop, so no two are alike. Regular ceramic egg cups are typically mass-produced with printed patterns. Quail’s animal shapes are also sculptural — they look lovely on the table between meals.

Can hand-painted stoneware withstand the heat from soft-boiled eggs?

Yes, stoneware is fired at high temperatures (over 1200°C), so it easily handles the heat from boiling water. Just don’t put the egg cup directly from the fridge into boiling water — let it acclimate to room temperature first.

Is a fox egg cup suitable for children who don’t want to eat breakfast?

Many parents use Quail’s animal-shaped egg cups to make breakfast more appealing. The fox has a friendly expression, and children can play at ‘feeding the fox’ while they eat. It’s a small psychological trick that really works.

Is a Quail egg cup a good gift for a christening or naming ceremony?

Yes, Quail’s egg cups are classic christening gifts in England — they last for generations and are often kept as keepsakes. The fox is gender-neutral and suits both boys and girls. Pair it with a silver spoon for a traditional gift set.

Why does the color of Quail egg cups vary?

Because each fox is hand-painted by different artisans. The glaze also reacts slightly differently during firing depending on its position in the kiln. It’s the DNA of craftsmanship — if you want two identical ones, choose mass-produced.

Handmade & unique product

Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
