Doing Goods collaborates with small weaving workshops in India, where artisans weave each tiger rug individually on traditional looms. The wool yarn is dyed before weaving, resulting in deeper colors than post-dyeing. Because the rug is handmade, color shades and stripe patterns vary from rug to rug – no two are the same. The wool comes from sheep in Northern India and is blended with cotton backing for stability.
The rug is thick enough to lie directly on the floor without slipping. The dense weave makes it durable in moderate traffic areas. The wool is naturally dirt-repellent but can felt if it gets wet, so avoid placing it in bathrooms or near exterior doors.
Care and maintenance
Vacuum the rug weekly using a brush attachment on a low setting. For stains: gently blot with a damp cloth and mild soapy water – never rub, as the wool can felt. Let air dry flat.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Doing Goods animal rugs and regular animal head rugs?
Doing Goods rugs are handwoven in wool with dyed yarn, providing deeper colors and longer durability than printed or tufted versions. Each rug is uniquely handmade, so color shades and details vary. Regular animal rugs are often machine-made from synthetic materials.
Can the tiger rug be machine washed?
No, the rug must not be machine washed. The wool will felt and shrink when exposed to wet heat. Vacuum regularly and spot clean stains with a damp cloth. For heavy soiling, professional cleaning of wool rugs is recommended.
Does the tiger rug slip on wooden floors?
The rug has a cotton backing that grips better than smooth synthetic rugs but can still slip on polished wooden floors. Use a non-slip underlay if placing the rug in high-traffic areas or where children play.
Is the Doing Goods tiger rug a good housewarming gift?
Yes, the rug is popular as a housewarming gift because it is both decorative and functional. It suits most interior styles and is handmade, giving the gift a personal touch. The rug comes in Doing Goods’ signature packaging.
Does the tiger rug shed wool at first?
Yes, all new wool rugs shed loose fibers during the first weeks. This is normal and gradually decreases. Vacuum the rug 2-3 times a week during the first month to remove loose fibers faster. Shedding stops once the rug has settled.
