Doing Goods hand-casts each seahorse knob in 100% recycled brass. The casting process means every knob has subtle surface variations – no two are exactly alike. The threaded stem measures 5 cm and can be cut to fit both thin cabinet doors (1-2 cm) and thicker doors (up to 4 cm). A brass nut is included.

The brass is polished bright on delivery but develops a natural patina over time when exposed to air and touch. Patina develops more slowly in areas with less contact. If you prefer the shiny finish, polish the knob with brass cleaner 2-3 times a year.

Care and maintenance

Wipe with a damp cloth. The brass develops a natural patina – polish with brass cleaner if you want to keep the shiny surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between left-facing and right-facing seahorse knobs?

The orientation indicates which way the seahorse's body and tail face when the knob is mounted. Left-facing means the seahorse 'swims' to the left. Choose the direction based on your decor – for example, use both directions on a dresser with two doors so the seahorses 'meet' in the middle.

Can I mount the seahorse knob on a drawer?

Yes, but the 5 cm thread is designed for cabinet doors and wall mounting. For drawers, you need to cut the thread to match the drawer front thickness (typically 1.5-2 cm). Use a hacksaw and smooth the edge with a file afterward.

How do I prevent the brass from becoming dull?

Brass naturally oxidizes and develops a darker, matte patina. Polish the knob with brass cleaner (e.g., Hagerty or Brasso) every 3-6 months to maintain the shiny finish. Avoid abrasive cleaners that scratch the surface.

Is the seahorse knob a good gift for a child's room?

Yes, it works well as a christening or birthday gift for children who love the sea. Mount it on a dresser or use it as a hook for a bathrobe. The brass is durable and withstands daily use – even from small hands.

Are screws included for mounting?

No, only the nut is included. You need to drill a hole (typically 6-8 mm) through the cabinet door or wall, insert the threaded stem, and tighten the nut on the back. For wall mounting, use a wall plug or similar anchor first.
