Doing Goods creates this palm-shaped knob in hand-cast brass — a material that develops a beautiful patina over time. Each knob is cast individually, resulting in slight surface variations that make each one unique. The threaded stem measures 5 cm and can be cut shorter if you need to fit the knob on thin doors or drawers. Both the knob and nut are brass, so there are no plastic parts that wear out or discolor.
Care and maintenance
Brass naturally patinates and darkens over time. To maintain a shiny finish, polish the knob with a soft cloth and brass polish.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between brass knobs and chrome-plated knobs?
Brass is a natural material that develops a warmer, darker tone over time — giving a lively surface. Chrome-plated knobs keep their shiny finish but can wear and chip when scratched. Brass can be polished back to shine.
Can I install the palm knob on a thin cabinet door?
Yes, the 5 cm threaded stem can be cut shorter with a hacksaw. Measure your door’s thickness, add 1-1.5 cm for the nut, and saw off the rest. Lightly file the edge afterwards so the nut screws on easily.
How many knobs do I need for a dresser with 6 drawers?
It depends on the drawer width. Narrow drawers (under 50 cm) work well with 1 centered knob. Wider drawers look better with 2 knobs placed symmetrically — typically 8-10 cm from each edge.
Is a brass knob a good hostess gift?
Yes, especially if the hostess likes vintage decor or is renovating her kitchen. Buy 4-6 pieces so she has enough for a small cabinet or dresser. Wrap them in tissue paper inside a small box.
Why do handmade brass knobs vary in appearance?
Doing Goods casts each knob in a sand mold — a traditional technique where the sand leaves small marks on the surface. This means the leaf veins and contours differ slightly from knob to knob, just like real palm trees aren’t identical.

Handmade & unique product
Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
