Doing Goods produces all their brass hooks in small workshops in India, where metalworkers cast recycled brass in sand molds. The Oda Star Hook measures 12 x 7.5 x 4 cm and weighs enough to sit firmly on the wall, yet is compact enough for small children's rooms. The natural golden tone of the brass gradually darkens over time — a patina that reflects the material’s authenticity.
The hook works best for lighter items: robes, pajamas, bags, hats, or school bags. The five-pointed star shape makes it especially popular in children's rooms, but also in hallways where you want something more playful than standard coat hooks. Mount several in a constellation on the wall — Doing Goods also makes Maan (moon) and Sol hooks in the same series.
Care and maintenance
Brass naturally develops a patina and darkens over time. To maintain the bright golden tone, you can polish the hook with lemon juice and salt or a mild brass cleaner.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Oda Star Hook and regular brass hooks?
Oda is hand-cast in sand molds, so each hook has slight surface variations — not machine-made. Additionally, the brass is recycled material, making it heavier and more solid than new brass alloys.
Can the Oda Star Hook hold heavy winter coats?
No, the hook is designed for lighter items such as robes, pajamas, bags, and hats. For heavy coats, you should use a larger coat hook with a broader surface.
How do I mount the star hook on drywall?
Use drywall anchors (rawlplugs) and screws at least 4-5 mm thick. The hook has a mounting hole on the back — make sure the screw is securely fixed in the wall before hanging heavy items.
Is the Oda Star Hook a good christening gift for newborns?
Yes, the star hook is popular as a christening gift because it can hang in the child's room for many years — first for baby clothes, later for school bags. Feel free to pair it with the Maan (moon) hook from the same series.
Does the brass hook turn green over time?
Brass does not oxidize to a green patina like copper does. It gradually darkens and develops a warm bronze tone — especially if exposed to moisture or frequent handling. This is a natural process that reflects the material’s authenticity.
