This brass knob is cast in the shape of a shell with natural ridges and curves. Doing Goods handcrafts each knob, resulting in subtle surface variations — no two are exactly alike. Both the knob and nut are solid brass with a polished finish. The threaded rod measures 5 cm and can be cut to size as needed, fitting both thin cabinet doors (1-2 cm) and thicker dresser fronts (3-4 cm). Brass is 100% recyclable and develops a natural patina over time if left unpolished.
Care and maintenance
Wipe with a soft cloth. Brass develops a natural patina — use brass polish if you want to keep the shiny surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a solid brass knob and a brass-look knob?
This knob is solid brass all the way through — not just a coating. That means it’s heavier, develops genuine patina over time, and lasts for generations. Cheaper knobs are often zinc or plastic with a brass-colored layer that wears off.
Can I shorten the threaded rod myself?
Yes, use a hacksaw or metal saw. First measure how much thread you need (thickness of the cabinet door + 1-2 cm for the nut), mark with tape, and saw carefully. File the edge afterwards to make it smooth.
How many knobs do I need for a dresser?
For a standard 4-drawer dresser: 1 knob per drawer = 4 pieces. For wider drawers (over 60 cm): 2 knobs per drawer for better balance. Kitchen cabinets: typically 1 knob per door, 2 per wide drawer.
Is a brass knob a good housewarming gift?
Yes — buy 4-6 pieces so the recipient can replace all handles on a dresser or shelf. It’s a practical gift that upgrades furniture they already own. Consider pairing with a small bottle of brass polish.
Does brass turn green over time?
Indoors, brass develops a golden-brown patina, not green. Green patina (verdigris) only occurs outdoors with rain and moisture. If you want to keep the polished finish, polish the knob 1-2 times a year.
