Description

Made by British Quail, who have specialized in ceramic animal figures fired in high-temperature stoneware since 1987. Each pug is hand-painted with wrinkles, a snout and a chubby body, so no two sets are alike — one has holes for salt, the other for pepper. A piece of French bulldog charm for the dinner table, somewhere between a collector's item and an everyday object.

Care and maintenance

Dishwasher safe, but hand washing extends the life of the hand-painted surface. Avoid abrasive sponges.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Quail's animal shakers and regular salt and pepper sets?

Quail's shakers are individually hand-painted in stoneware with detailed animal motifs, while mass-produced sets are typically decal-decorated or plain. Each Quail pug has small variations in tone and painting, so no two sets are identical.

Is the pug salt and pepper set from Quail a good gift for dog lovers?

Yes, the set makes an ideal hostess gift, birthday gift or Christmas gift for dog owners — especially those with a French bulldog or a pug. Quail's animal shakers are collector's items, and many buy several figures over time.

How do you clean hand-painted stoneware from Quail?

The shakers are dishwasher safe, but hand washing in lukewarm soapy water is recommended to preserve the hand-painted surface for as long as possible. Never scrub with steel wool or abrasive cleaners.

Can you tell the salt and pepper shaker apart?

Yes, the holes in the top are sized differently — typically fewer, larger holes for pepper and more, smaller holes for salt. Both pugs have the same shape but can be told apart by the hole pattern on top.

Where does Quail ceramics come from?

Quail Ceramics is a British brand established in 1987, specializing in ceramic animal figures and tableware. Designs are developed in the UK, and each figure is individually hand-painted, giving small unique variations.

Handmade & unique product

Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
