Each knob is individually cast by artisans who have specialized in brass work for generations. Doing Goods works directly with the family workshop, ensuring fair wages and good working conditions. The brass comes from recycled industrial components and is given new life as a poppy-shaped knob with visible casting marks and natural color variations — proof of the manual craftsmanship.

The thread measures 3 cm in standard length but can be shortened with a metal saw if your drawer front or door is thinner. Installation requires drilling an 8 mm hole, inserting the threaded bolt, and tightening it with the included nut on the back. The warm golden tone of the brass naturally darkens over time and develops a patina — a process you can speed up with vinegar or slow down with clear lacquer.

Care and maintenance

Wipe with a damp cloth. Brass develops a natural patina over time — polish with lemon juice and salt if you want to maintain the bright tone, or let it darken naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Doing Goods knobs and regular brass knobs from hardware stores?

Doing Goods knobs are hand-cast in recycled brass at family workshops in India with fair-trade certification. Hardware store knobs are typically machine-made from new brass or brass-plated zinc in mass production. Doing Goods knobs have visible casting marks and individual color variations, while industrial knobs are uniform.

Can I shorten the thread myself if my drawer is thin?

Yes, the thread can be shortened with a regular metal saw. First measure the thickness of your drawer front or door, mark the desired thread length, and carefully saw it off. File any sharp edges afterward so the nut can be screwed on smoothly.

Does the Mia Flower knob fit IKEA furniture?

Yes, the knob fits most IKEA cabinets and dressers if you drill a new 8 mm hole. Hemnes, Malm, and Tarva series work well. Remember to measure the thickness of the front — the standard thread is 3 cm, so fronts thicker than that do not require shortening.

Is a brass poppy knob a good hostess gift?

Yes, especially if the host has just bought second-hand furniture or is renovating. Give 4-6 pieces in a small box so they can replace the knobs on an entire dresser. Feel free to combine with other Doing Goods shapes like elephant or lotus for a mixed set.

Does the brass knob turn green over time?

Brass oxidizes and develops a darker golden patina but rarely turns green indoors unless exposed to high moisture. Green patina (verdigris) mainly occurs outdoors. If you want to preserve the bright tone, you can treat the knob with clear lacquer after installation.
