Doing Goods produces their brass knobs in collaboration with small workshops in India, where artisans individually cast each knob from recycled brass. The material develops a warm, golden patina over time, and since each knob is handmade, the shades vary slightly from piece to piece. The knob is left-facing — the moon points to the left when you look straight at it. Screw holes are drilled by you, so you can place them exactly where they should sit on your furniture.
Care and maintenance
Wipe with a damp cloth. Brass naturally develops patina over time — if you want to keep the shiny surface, polish with brass polish a couple of times a year.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between left-facing and right-facing moon knobs?
A left-facing moon knob has the moon pointing to the left when you stand in front of the furniture. Doing Goods makes both directions, so you can choose based on how you want the symmetry on your drawers or create a pattern by mixing them.
How do I install a brass knob without pre-drilled holes?
You drill the holes yourself in the knob using a metal drill bit to fit your furniture. First measure where the screws should be on the drawer, mark the placement on the back of the knob, and drill carefully. Use screws long enough to go through the furniture and into the knob.
Can I use the moon knob on IKEA furniture?
Yes, the knob fits well on IKEA dressers like Hemnes, Malm, or Tarva. You just need to drill the holes yourself to match the existing screw holes in the drawer. The 4 cm width works well on standard drawers.
Is a handmade brass knob a good housewarming gift?
Yes, especially if you give 4-6 pieces together so the recipient can replace the handles on an entire dresser. It’s a personal gift that lasts for many years, and the brass only gains more character over time. Feel free to combine with other Doing Goods animal-shaped knobs.
Does recycled brass turn green over time?
Brass naturally oxidizes and develops a darker, warmer tone — but it does not turn green unless exposed to a lot of moisture over a long period. Indoors on furniture, it typically just develops a softer patina. If you want to restore the shiny finish, you can polish with brass polish.

Handmade & unique product
Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
