The hook is hand-cast in recycled brass, giving each turtle slight variations in surface and patina. Production takes place at a family workshop in Moradabad, India, where Doing Goods works directly with local brass workers to ensure fair wages and working conditions. The brass has a warm, golden tone that naturally darkens over time.

The turtle measures 6 x 1.5 x 2.5 cm and weighs about 15 grams. Its small size makes it suitable for children's rooms, hallways, or bathrooms, where it can hold light items such as jewelry, keychains, small towels, or bags up to approximately 200 grams. Mounted with one screw through the hole in the shell.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the brass with a soft cloth. The brass will naturally develop a patina and darken over time — this is normal. Polish with brass polish if you want to restore the original golden shine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Doing Goods animal hooks and regular brass hooks?

Doing Goods hooks are hand-cast in recycled brass at family workshops in India with fair trade certification. Regular brass hooks are typically machine-made from new brass. Each Doing Goods hook has slight variations in surface and patina due to the handmade process.

How much weight can a small turtle hook hold?

The hook is designed for light items up to about 200 grams — for example, jewelry, keychains, small towels, or a light children's bag. Avoid hanging heavy jackets or bags on it.

How do I mount the turtle hook on the wall?

Use one screw through the hole in the turtle's shell. For drywall, use a wall plug. For wood or solid walls, you can screw directly in. Screw not included.

Is a turtle hook a good gift for a christening or children's birthday?

Yes, it is popular as a christening or children's birthday gift under 100 DKK. The turtle symbolizes calm and wisdom, and the hook can be used for many years in the children's room. The fair trade production makes it a meaningful gift.

Does the brass hook turn green or discolor over time?

Brass naturally develops a patina and darkens to a warmer tone over time. This is normal and part of the material's character. Green patina (verdigris) only occurs with prolonged exposure to moisture — avoid this by keeping the hook dry.
