The lion rug is hand-tufted by Indian artisans in 100% wool with a cotton backing that provides stability and durability. Each tuft is placed manually, resulting in slight natural variations in height and color tone from rug to rug. The GoodWeave label certifies that production complies with international standards against child labor, forced labor, and debt bondage.

The wool fibers are naturally dirt-repellent and flame-retardant without chemical treatment. The rug is available in two sizes and works well both as a floor rug in the living room and in the children's room, where the soft wool surface dampens sound and insulates against cold floors.

Care and Maintenance

Vacuum regularly using the lowest suction power or brush setting. For stains: gently blot with a damp cloth and mild soap, never rub. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between hand-tufted and hand-woven rugs?

Hand-tufted rugs are made by pushing wool yarn through a stretched backing with a tufting gun, after which the fibers are trimmed to the desired height. Hand-woven rugs are woven on a loom where the yarn crosses over and under the warp threads. Tufted rugs are thicker and softer, while woven rugs are flatter and often more durable.

How do I care for a wool rug with an animal motif?

Vacuum with a brush setting once a week. Rotate the rug every 3 months for even wear. For stains: blot with a damp cloth and pH-neutral soap, then air dry flat. Wool partially cleans itself, so avoid overwashing.

Can a lion rug be used on underfloor heating?

Yes, wool tolerates underfloor heating but also insulates, so heat does not fully penetrate. Keep underfloor heating below 27°C to avoid drying out the wool fibers. The cotton backing provides good heat conduction compared to synthetic materials.

Is an animal rug from Doing Goods a good gift for a child’s birthday?

Yes, especially for children aged 2-8 who play on the floor. The wool is naturally flame-retardant and allergy-friendly. The lion motif appeals to children interested in animals. The GoodWeave certification makes it an ethical gift appreciated by parents.

What does GoodWeave certification mean on a rug?

GoodWeave is an independent certification guaranteeing that the rug is produced without child labor, forced labor, or debt bondage. Factories are inspected unannounced, and part of the proceeds go to education for former child workers. It is the most recognized standard for ethical rug production from India, Nepal, and Afghanistan.
