Doing Goods produces this leopard head rug in collaboration with Nepalese artisans through fair trade-certified workshops. Each rug is hand-tufted in 100% wool, creating a dense, warm surface with natural resistance to dirt. The cotton backing ensures stability and makes the rug easier to handle than pure wool rugs. The leopard spots are individually handmade, so no two rugs are identical.
Measuring 100x105 cm, the rug covers about 1 square meter. The 2 cm thickness provides a soft, noise-dampening surface. Wool naturally regulates temperature — insulating against cold floors in winter and feeling cool in summer. The colors range from light beige to deep brown, making the rug easy to combine with both light and dark interiors.
Care and maintenance
Vacuum the rug weekly on the lowest setting using a brush nozzle. For stains: gently blot with cold water and neutral soap — never rub. Air the rug outdoors 2-3 times a year to remove odors and refresh the wool.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Doing Goods animal head rugs and regular kids’ rugs?
Doing Goods’ animal head rugs are hand-tufted in 100% wool through fair trade workshops in Nepal, while most kids’ rugs are machine-made from synthetic materials. Wool offers better insulation, is naturally dirt- and odor-resistant, and lasts significantly longer. Each rug is also uniquely handmade.
Can a wool rug withstand daily use in a child's room?
Yes, wool is one of the most durable natural materials for floor rugs. Wool fibers have natural elasticity that makes them resistant to crushing, and the material repels dirt better than cotton or synthetic fibers. Vacuum regularly and treat stains immediately.
Should something be placed under the rug on wooden floors?
On smooth floors like wood, laminate, or tiles, a non-slip rug pad is recommended. It prevents the rug from sliding when children play on it and also protects the floor from wear caused by the cotton backing. On carpets or mats, it can be used directly.
Is a leopard head rug a good gift for a christening or first birthday?
Yes, Doing Goods animal head rugs are popular christening and birthday gifts because they last for many years and grow with the child — from play rug to decorative element in the teenage years. The fair trade certification makes it a meaningful gift. Many choose to pair it with a matching Doing Goods animal head cushion.
Why does the wool rug smell when new?
New wool has a natural lanolin scent (wool grease) that disappears after 2-4 weeks of use. Air the rug outdoors for a few hours or place it in a well-ventilated room. The smell is completely harmless and a sign that the wool has not been chemically treated.
