Doing Goods produces this knob in collaboration with artisans in India, where each hibiscus flower is cast and finished by hand. The entire knob — including the bolt — is made from recycled brass, giving it a warmer and more delicate surface than traditional iron fittings. The bolt comes in lengths of 3-5 cm and can be shortened with a metal saw if you need a shorter version for thin doors or drawer fronts.
The knob works well both as a furniture handle on dressers and cabinets, as a door handle on wardrobe doors, or as a wall-mounted hook for jewelry and scarves. When mounting on a wall, drill a hole, optionally insert a rawlplug, and screw the knob in place — handle it carefully during installation to preserve the flower’s details.
Care and maintenance
Wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, as they can scratch the brass surface. Brass naturally develops a patina over time — polish with brass cleaner if you prefer a shiny finish.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between brass knobs and iron knobs?
Brass is softer and lighter than iron, offering a warmer feel and a more delicate surface. Brass knobs naturally develop a patina over time, gaining a darker, antique tone, while iron is typically painted or powder-coated. The Hailey Hibiscus Knob is cast from recycled brass, so each knob has slight surface variations.
How do I clean a brass knob without damaging the surface?
Use a soft, damp cloth for daily cleaning. Avoid abrasive cleaners and acidic products like vinegar or lemon juice, as they can etch the brass. To remove patina and restore a shiny finish, use a specialized brass polish.
Can I use the Hailey Hibiscus Knob on a thin drawer front?
Yes, the bolt can be shortened with a metal saw if the standard length of 3-5 cm is too long. Measure the thickness of your drawer front, mark the desired bolt length, and carefully saw through. Optionally, lightly sand the edge afterwards.
Is the Hailey Hibiscus Knob a good hostess gift?
Yes, especially for hosts who are renovating or decorating. The knob is handmade, made from recycled material, and has a distinctive design profile — it’s a gift with meaning rather than a generic item. Pair it with a small brass candlestick or a handmade ceramic dish from the same shopping trip.
Why are some brass knobs more expensive than others?
The price depends on material, production method, and craftsmanship. The Hailey Hibiscus Knob is hand-cast and finished manually in India — not machine-made. Doing Goods works directly with artisans and ensures fair wages, which is reflected in the price. Recycled brass is also more costly than new brass mixed with zinc.

Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
