Doing Goods’ ginkgo knobs are cast from 100% recycled brass using a sand mold technique, where the artisan presses the leaf shape into the sand before casting. The brass’s natural golden color will develop a patina over time — darkening in tones and gaining a richer glow. Each knob measures 5 x 5 x 6.5 cm and weighs about 45 grams.
These knobs work perfectly as drawer pulls, cabinet handles, or light hooks for scarves and bags. Brass is softer than steel, so avoid hanging heavy winter coats or bags filled with books on them. They come with a screw for mounting — drill a 3-4 mm hole and fasten the knob from the outside.
Care and maintenance
Wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners as they scratch the brass surface. The patina is natural and can be polished with brass polish if you prefer the bright golden tone.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the ginkgo knob and Doing Goods’ other brass knobs?
The ginkgo knob features an organic leaf shape with veins, while their round knobs, for example, have a smooth surface. All are cast from recycled brass at the same workshop, so they can be freely combined. The ginkgo shape is slightly larger (6.5 cm tall) than most others in the collection.
Can the ginkgo knob hold a bag or jacket?
It can hold light bags (up to 2-3 kg) and scarves without any problem. Brass is softer than steel, so avoid heavy winter coats or bags filled with books — these can bend the knob over time.
How do I mount the ginkgo knob on a drawer?
Drill a 3-4 mm hole through the drawer front. Insert the included screw through the hole from the inside and screw the knob on from the outside. Use a screwdriver to tighten — not too hard, as brass can deform.
Is the ginkgo knob a good gift for housewarming or birthdays?
Yes — it costs under 100 DKK and is handmade, giving it a personal touch. Buy 4-6 pieces for a dresser or combine with other Doing Goods knobs in different shapes so the recipient can create their own look.
Why do ginkgo knobs vary slightly in color and shape?
Because each knob is hand-cast in a sand mold — the artisan presses a ginkgo leaf into the sand, pours molten brass into the mold, and files the edges afterward. Small differences in pressure, temperature, and finishing make each knob unique.
