Description

Doing Goods casts the hook in recycled brass, and each casting gives the leaf its own surface character. The matte finish does not shine — it holds a warm, golden tone that oxidises slowly and develops a darker patina over the years. The fan shape with its characteristic leaf veins draws from classical Asian nature motifs, where the ginkgo leaf stands as a symbol of resilience.

Care & FAQShow less

Care and maintenance

Wipe with a damp cloth — avoid abrasive cleaners, as they remove the patina. Brass oxidises naturally and darkens over time, which is part of the material's character.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between recycled brass and new brass?

Recycled brass is made by remelting existing brass, which saves resources and energy compared to new extraction. The material has the same properties as new brass — it develops patina and holds a warm golden tone — but each casting may have small surface variations that make the piece unique.

How do you mount a heavy brass hook on the wall?

The ginkgo hook weighs around 150 g and must be screwed directly into the wall — not hung on a nail. Use a rawlplug in plasterboard walls and an appropriate screw so the hook can bear jackets, bags and scarves without pulling loose.

How do you care for a brass hook to preserve the patina?

Wipe with a damp cloth as needed and avoid all abrasive cleaners and polishes. The patina is part of the character of brass, and the hook becomes more beautiful over the years as the tone darkens.

What does the ginkgo leaf symbolise in interior design?

The ginkgo leaf is a classic motif in Asian design and art, known for its characteristic fan shape with prominent leaf veins. The tree is one of the oldest on earth, and the leaf is often used as a symbol of resilience, longevity and harmony.

Is a ginkgo hook in brass a good housewarming gift?

Yes, a brass hook works as a thoughtful housewarming or moving-in gift — it is functional, lasts many years and suits both modern and classic homes. The leaf motif makes it a small eye-catcher rather than an anonymous practical detail.
