This hook is cast from recycled brass and shaped like a classic cowboy boot with engraved floral vines along the shaft. Each hook is handmade by Indian metalworkers, meaning the brass patina and finish vary slightly from piece to piece. Dimensions: 11 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm. Doing Goods works with fair-trade workshops in India and Nepal, where artisans receive fair wages and working conditions.

The hook can be screwed directly onto the wall (screw not included) or on the outside of a wardrobe. The golden color of the brass darkens over time and develops a warm patina — this is the material’s natural aging process. If you prefer the shiny finish, you can polish it with lemon juice and salt.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the hook with a damp cloth. Brass naturally develops a patina over time — if you want to keep the shiny finish, polish it with lemon juice and salt or brass polish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between recycled brass and new brass?

Recycled brass is melted down from old brass objects and recast. This saves energy compared to extracting new copper and zinc. There is no difference in quality — brass is a durable material that lasts for generations.

Does the brass hook turn green over time?

Brass oxidizes slowly and develops a darker, warm patina — but it does not turn green unless exposed to a lot of moisture for a long time. It holds up well in the bathroom, but wipe it dry if it gets wet.

Can I use the cowboy boot hook for heavy jackets?

The hook is best suited for lighter items like keys, scarves, small bags, or towels. For heavy winter coats, you should use a larger hook with greater load capacity.

Is a brass hook a good hostess gift?

Yes, especially if the host appreciates rustic decor or collects handmade objects. The cowboy boot is a conversation piece and works both as a hook and wall decoration. Wrap it in tissue paper to prevent scratches on the brass.

Where are Doing Goods hooks produced?

Doing Goods partners with fair-trade workshops in India and Nepal. Their brass hooks are handcrafted in India by metalworkers who receive fair wages and working conditions. Each piece is therefore slightly unique.
