Description
Handmade in India by Doing Goods, where old brass is melted down and cast into new shapes. The scales are clearly embossed along the back, and the matte gold surface catches the light without glaring — the patina develops quietly over the years. A small zoological figure from Doing Goods' fauna universe, bringing wildlife into the practical details of everyday life.
Care and FAQShow less
Care and maintenance
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth and avoid harsh cleaning agents that can wear down the matte finish. The brass naturally develops a patina over time.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between recycled brass and new brass?
Recycled brass is melted down from existing brass objects and recast, saving up to 95% energy compared to extracting new raw material. Visually and functionally it's identical to new brass, but with a lower climate footprint.
How do you mount a Doing Goods hook?
The hook has a drill hole on the back and is mounted with a screw and wall plug. Screws are not included, but a standard 4 mm screw fits. On plaster walls, a plaster wall plug is recommended for securely hanging heavier jackets.
How much can a brass hook carry?
The solid brass construction can easily carry anything from light keys to heavier winter jackets, as long as the hook is correctly mounted on the wall with a suitable wall plug. Carrying capacity depends mainly on the mounting, not the hook itself.
Is the Chewy Crocodile hook a good gift for the children's room?
Yes, the crocodile hook is an obvious gift for moving into a new children's room or as a christening gift for a boy. It works both as decoration and as a practical hook at kid height for backpacks and outerwear — and it captures the imagination in a different way than a regular hook.
Does brass develop a patina, and can you avoid it?
Yes, untreated brass naturally develops a darker, warmer patina over time depending on humidity and touch. The patina is part of brass's character and can easily be polished away with brass cleaner if you prefer the original golden shine.
