The hook is cast by Indian artisans specializing in brass work. The material is 100% recycled brass, meaning no new raw material extraction was needed. The matte finish is achieved through a traditional polishing and treatment process that gives the surface its warm, golden tone. Over time, the brass will naturally develop a patina — a darker shade that highlights the details of the crocodile’s scales and eyes.

The hook measures 3 x 11 x 1 cm and weighs enough to hold light jackets, bags, or keychains. Doing Goods collaborates with Fair Trade-certified workshops in India, where artisans work under fair conditions and receive fair wages. Each piece is individually hand-cast, so slight variations in surface and shape occur — a hallmark of genuine craftsmanship.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the hook with a lightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners and abrasive powders, as they can scratch the matte finish. Brass naturally develops patina over time — if you prefer the original bright tone, polish it with a soft cloth and lemon juice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between recycled brass and new brass?

Recycled brass is melted down from existing brass items and recast. It requires far less energy than extracting and refining new copper and zinc (the components of brass). The quality is identical, but the carbon footprint is significantly lower.

Can the crocodile hook hold heavy winter jackets?

The hook is best suited for light to medium-weight items like summer jackets, bags, scarves, and keychains. Heavy winter coats should be hung on a larger, sturdier hook with a wider mounting.

How do I mount the hook on the wall?

The hook has two holes on the back. Use screws and wall plugs suitable for your wall type (drywall, concrete, or wood). Screws are not included. Measure the distance between the holes before drilling.

Is the crocodile hook a good housewarming gift?

Yes, it works well as a hostess or housewarming gift. It’s practical, lasts for decades, and its handmade character makes it more personal than standard hooks. Pair it with a small plant or a scented candle.

Why does each hook vary slightly in appearance?

Because they are hand-cast in sand molds by individual artisans. Small differences in casting thickness, polishing, and finish are natural — proof that your hook is made by human hands, not machines.
