This 60x200 cm rug is made as a no-waste product, where local artisans in India weave discarded cotton fabrics into striped runners. The Chindi technique reuses textile waste that would otherwise be thrown away. Production follows fair trade principles with proper working conditions and fair wages.

The rug has a flat, tightly woven structure with visible stripes in varying colors—depending on which fabrics were available when your specific rug was woven. Both ends feature matching tassels. The surface is rough and textured, not soft like a traditional floor rug.

Care and maintenance

Shake the rug outdoors or vacuum it on a low setting. For stains: gently blot with a damp cloth and mild soapy water—avoid rubbing as this can loosen the weaving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Chindi rug and a traditional cotton rug?

Chindi rugs are woven from strips of recycled fabric instead of yarn, creating a thicker, more textured surface. Traditional cotton rugs are woven or tufted from cotton yarn and typically have a smoother, softer finish. The Chindi technique reuses textile waste and is therefore more sustainable.

Can the Bongusta Chindi rug be machine washed?

No, machine washing is not recommended as it can cause the rug to shrink and the weaving to loosen. Instead, shake or vacuum it, and treat stains locally with a damp cloth.

Is the 60x200 cm rug too narrow for an entryway?

It depends on your entryway. The 60 cm width works well in narrow hallways and in front of doors, but if you have a wide entryway of 120+ cm, the rug may look small. Measure your entry first—the rug should cover at least half the floor width to look balanced.

Is the Bongusta Chindi rug a good hostess gift?

Yes, it’s a practical and personal gift for friends who have a summer house, a new apartment, or an interest in sustainability. Mention that it’s handwoven from recycled materials—it adds a meaningful story to the gift. Avoid if the recipient prefers minimalist decor without colors.

Does the Chindi rug slip on smooth floors?

Yes, the rug has no non-slip backing, so on tiles, laminate, or lacquered wood floors it can slide. Use a non-slip underlay if the rug is placed in a high-traffic area.
