This tiger rug is made using hand-tufting — a technique where wool yarn is pushed through a cotton base with a tufting gun, then trimmed to height. The result is a rug with a dense, soft wool surface and a stable cotton backing. Each tuft is placed manually, so every rug has small natural variations in height and density. The GoodWeave label means the production has been inspected and approved free from child and forced labor.

The wool fibers are naturally dirt-repellent and retain warmth, while the cotton backing prevents the rug from slipping on smooth floors. The colors are woven into the yarn before tufting, providing more durable shades than after-dyeing. The tiger motif is part of Doing Goods' Tapis Amis collection, where each animal design is drawn as a stylized silhouette with contrasting colors.

Care and maintenance

Vacuum on low power in the direction of the wool fibers. Treat stains immediately with cold water and mild soap — never rub, but gently blot. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight as it can fade the colors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between hand-tufted and hand-knotted rugs?

Hand-tufted means wool yarn is pushed through a base with a tufting gun and trimmed to height — faster than hand-knotting. Hand-knotted rugs have each knot tied individually, which takes months and costs significantly more. Hand-tufted rugs are more affordable but still handmade with unique variations.

Can wool rugs be used if you have dust mite allergies?

Wool is actually better than synthetic fibers for allergy sufferers because wool fibers naturally repel dust mites and absorb less dust than polyester. Regular vacuuming keeps the rug clean. However, avoid wool if you are allergic to lanolin (wool grease).

How do I prevent the rug from slipping on wooden floors?

The cotton backing provides good friction on most floors. On very smooth wooden floors, you can place a non-slip underlay beneath the rug. Avoid rubber-backed pads on lacquered wood as they can leave marks — instead, choose felt or PVC-free non-slip pads.

Is a tiger rug a good gift for a nursery?

Yes — animal motifs appeal to children, and wool rugs are practical for play areas because wool is naturally dirt-repellent and soft to sit on. The GoodWeave certification also makes it an ethical gift. Choose the smaller size for a child's room.

What does GoodWeave certification specifically mean?

GoodWeave is an independent organization that inspects workshops in India, Nepal, and Afghanistan. The certification guarantees no child labor under 14 years, no forced labor, fair wages, and safe working conditions. Each certified rug has a unique ID number so production can be traced.

Most of my products are handmade or hand-painted. This means that there may be variations in color, finish, and minor imperfections. These variations are a natural part of the handmade look and make each product unique. Minor differences are therefore not considered defects.
