Motifs: tiger, leopard and birds

EJA's Quilt Ethnic series is known for its bold, graphic animal motifs. The tigers come in several colour combinations, including green, blue, purple and pink, while the leopard print appears both as the main motif and in a jungle version with a pink back. The bird motif is a calmer alternative, often combined with flowers or striped backs, and a few models feature a floral motif in yellow and pink instead of animals. What the series has in common is that the motifs are printed or woven directly into the quilted fabric, so the colours stay bold throughout the bedspread. Woven cotton bedspread

A woven bedspread is a single layer of textile, where the pattern is created in the weaving itself. It's typically lighter than the quilted bedspread and drapes more softly around the shape of the bed. How to care for your bedspread

• Quilted bedspread: Wash at a low temperature following the instructions on the brand, and avoid tumble drying so the filling doesn't clump. Air-dry flat.
• Woven bedspread in recycled cotton: Wash as instructed on the individual product.
• Wool and alpaca: Air the bedspread instead of washing it, and gently dab stains with a damp cloth. Avoid machine washing and tumble drying.
• Fringing: Shake the bedspread and straighten the fringing after washing so it doesn't tangle.

How to keep the colours strong

Bold textiles like EJA's Quilt Ethnic bedspreads last best when washed at a low temperature, inside out and without harsh bleach. Avoid mixing dark and light textiles in the same wash, and let the bedspread air-dry or dry on low heat if the brand allows tumble drying, as high heat can dull the colours over time. If you use the bedspread daily, you'll extend its colours and shape by washing it less often and airing it out between washes instead.

Silkeborg Uldspinderi

Twist a Twill and Warp and Weft are designed by Danish textile designer Tina Ratzer, Franja was created together with Margrethe Odgaard, and The Sweater came about in collaboration with Stilleben. AU Maison

AU Maison contributes woven bedspreads in the Zigzag Væv, Multi and Multi Stribet series. They're characterised by vertical stripes, herringbone patterns and multicoloured fringing at both ends.

Bloomingville and Bloomingville MINI

Bloomingville's bedspreads are woven in recycled cotton with prints, stripes, patterns and tassels or fringing. Under Bloomingville MINI you'll find a bedspread with a mushroom motif, a great choice for the kids' room.
