Size and proportions
The planter should be 1–2 cm larger than the pot. Too big looks sloppy; too small is too tight. Ceramic planters come in many sizes.
Color that matches the plant
Green plants really pop in colorful planters. Terracotta, yellow, and blue are safe choices. White is timeless but boring.
Material makes a difference
