Colors transform a room more than anything else. But how do you choose the right colors for your home?
Start with what you already love
Look at your wardrobe, your favorite photos, nature. The colors you’re drawn to are the ones you should use at home. Do you have a lot of blue and green tones? Start there.
The 60-30-10 rule
60% dominant color (walls, large furniture), 30% secondary color (textiles, rugs), 10% accent (a colorful vase, candlesticks, a cup).
Warm vs. cool colors
Warm colors (yellow, orange, red) make rooms feel more intimate. Cool colors (blue, green) create a sense of calm. Mix them with brass accents to add warmth to a cool room.
Use accessories for color
You don’t need to repaint. Change up your color palette with bowls, vases, and rugs. It’s easier and cheaper than painting.
